The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City will be hiring recovery drug addicts to become a part of their staff. The casino resort will be working with the Atlantic and Cape May Country Drug Court. More so, the court is being renamed, and it will now be known as the Recovery Court. This is to help those recovering not to be stigmatised for their previous behaviour. Hence the name change.
Currently, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City is looking for staff that will work at the resort once it opens on the 28th of June. The casino resort is looking to hire about 3500 employees from the area that has been hard hit by the opioid drug epidemic. It will be one of the first casino resorts to be a part of this Recovery Court program.
The Program Forms Part of Hard Rock’s Mission
Hard Rock’s mission is “Love all, Serve all. Save the planet”. According to Robert Lee, Atlantic City’s vice president of community relations and government affairs; this is precisely what being a part of this program is about. He also said that they are advocating this mission in the community.
Bob McDevitt, President of the UNITE HERE Local 54, said that this is an opportunity to get people employed and become good workers. UNITE HERE Local 54 is also a part of the program, and it helps with training. In Local 54’s meeting, 60 participants attended, and if they are successful, they will be trained to work at the casino resort.
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City’s Decision
According to Joseph Jingoli, one of the partners at Hard Rock Atlantic City, if you are sober and living it, why wouldn’t they hire you? This is another reason that prompted the name change, giving people a chance to leave the stigma behind and lead a new life.
75% of the recovering addicts had worked in the casino industry in Atlantic City. However, they ended up being in the criminal court system, Mr McDevitt said.
