Recently updated on January 11th, 2022

Sports betting is a fun and awarding addition to simply watching your favourite sport on the telly. But, nobody wants to continually make losing bets, especially if you can’t afford to lose all that money. Yes, gambling is a very risky hobby to spend your time and money on. But, times have changed. These days there are far too many resources out there to help you make the best possible bets.

Football is a popular sporting event that’s watched by many fans, which is why it’s such a common sport for people to bet on. How do I win a bet in football you ask?

Well, while there is no guarantee to these things, we have a few tips to help you at least lessen the odds against you and help you make more informed betting decisions.

Top 3 Tips to Win A Bet in Football

Study the Sport

Our first form of advice to you is very important – study the game. You can’t claim to be a true fan when you know nothing about the game or how it’s played. We suggest that you take the time to study the rules of the game, read up on the different teams and how well they perform. Which player(s) are most talented? Who coaches the team? These are the types of questions you need to be asking yourself, and if you don’t know the answers, go search for them.

Don’t Make Biased Bets

Bet on the most likely winner, not your favourite. But, if the most likely winner happens to be your favourite, so be it. You must be willing to not bet on your favourite if you want to give yourself the best shot at winning. This is because your favs will not always win the game, and if you don’t allow yourself to steer away from such a narrow form of betting then you will lose more bets than necessary.

Top Dogs Don’t Always Win

Before the start of a match or big sporting event, sportsbooks will usually release the betting odds for that particular match where the underdog and top dog is clearly identified. The betting wagers for the top dog will be more than the wagers for the underdog because the top dog is most likely to win.

But, it’s not a good idea to make your choice based on that alone. Consider how both teams have done in previous matches leading up to the current match. If the underdogs won a majority of their matches, but the top dogs drew more than they won then, it’s worth a shot betting on the underdogs. Also, it’s not impossible for underdogs to win against the favourites, we’ve seen it happen many times before.

So, after you have done all the research, made a bet on the team with a better chance of winning and used all possible skills and methodologies, the best thing to do is hope for the best. You aren’t on the pitch and you can only hope that the team you have chosen is well prepared.
