There are only three lottery games that Canadian players can enjoy. These games are regulated by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation and are super safe to play. The starting price per ticket for each of these games is a low $3.
Lotto 6/49
The first of these games is called Lotto 6/49. This particular game is the longest-running jackpot lottery game in the country and also the first to let players manually choose their own numbers. Draws happen twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays and it’s overlooked by the ILC. Each ticket contains 10 compartments or blocks that contain numbers that start at 1 up to 49.
Lotto Max
Lotto Max first came about in 2009 and replaced another lottery game that existed at the time called Super 7. The overall jackpot for this game starts at $10 million and grows until it’s eventually won. The most money won by a single player on this game to date is $55 million. A ticket will cost you $5 and each ticket is divided into 7 sections that contain 49 in total starting a 1. Draws also happen twice a week on Fridays and Tuesdays.
Daily Grand
Daily Grand is the latest lottery game to come about and works a little differently than the two discussed above. Daily Grand, or Grande Vie as it’s known by some players guarantees a maximum reward of $1000 a day for a maximum of 20 years. But, if a $1000 a day deal won’t work for you they do give you the option of a $7 million lump sum.
Every ticket contains numbers from 1 to 49 of which you must select 5. Your final number must be selected from the grand numbers collection that includes 7 numbers 1 through 7. Draws take place on Mondays and Thursdays.
Lottery Games in Canada
The lottery games we mentioned above are the most commonly played games in the country. But you get smaller lottery-style games as well and these are super fun to play too. Here are a few of those games.
Pick 2: Pick 2 can be played by slip selection, quick pick or encore. When you play via slip selection you must choose a two-digit number that you hope will come up in the draw. Each ticket is divided into 5 sections and you can select a number from each section. Playing via quick pick is super easy. You simply ask the retailer to generate a quick pick ticket for you which will be done using a random number generator. Or, select the quick pick option when playing online. Encore is a bonus game that you get to play for an additional $1. To play you must ask your retailer to include ENCORE as a bonus game on your quick pick ticket. Or, you can mark the encore section on your standard slip selection ticket.
Lightning Lotto: Lightning Lotto is a jackpot game that can be won every day. A single ticket costs $2 and the overall jackpot amount starts at $125 000 and goes up until someone eventually wins. To play you must choose three sets of 5 numbers from numbers 1 through 49. You are able to purchase tickets from 03:30 am until just before midday as that’s when the daily draw happens.
Other lottery-style games include:
- Daily keno
- Poker lotto all in
- Mega dice lotto
- Wheel of fortune lotto
- Pick 4
- Pick 3
- Ontario 49
Online Lottery Game Rules
One of the perks to playing the lottery is that not too many rules and instructions come with it. The game is easy to play. Here are a few things to take note of when playing lottery games online or at a retailer.

- You are allowed to play the same number over and over again. That’s your choice.
- Should you win, you have 6 months to claim your winnings starting from the date of the draw.
- You may still be eligible for a prize for getting some of the numbers right. You just won’t receive the full jackpot, although not every lottery offers this.
- Make sure you read up on the terms and conditions that come with playing the lottery game to avoid unexpected surprises.
