SkyCity Entertainment Group is upgrading their Adelaide casino venue. They have received the go-ahead from the South Australia provincial government for the expansion. The total cost for the whole development will cost $330 million. SkyCity plans to make the casino resort “the most luxurious [hotel] in the city.”
With this expansion, the casino brand intends to increase the number of players that come to play the casino games. They also want to retain the international business that they have been receiving. Most of the international players are from China, including high rollers with money to burn.
However, SkyCity is not going to ignore the locals, as they are also going to revitalize the existing gaming section to appeal more to them.
It is projected that the enhancements will be completed in the third quarter of 2020 and the actual work on the casino will start in 2019. Once they are finished with the upgrade, the SkyCity Adelaide Casino will have the following:
- All suite 123 room boutique hotel.
- 750 capacity event venue.
- New restaurants and bars.
- 1 100 electronic gambling machines.
- New VIP gaming rooms.
- 140 gambling tables.
SkyCity Business Challenges
Even though the casino brand wants to upgrade the Adelaide casino, they have been some factors that have affected the bottom line. These include the $95 million in damages for the Darwin Casino. It was caused by the decision of the Northern Territory government to eliminate the cap on gambling machines. This has caused an increase in the number of gaming machines operated outside casinos.
Another issue that has affected SkyCity is the reduction of the IB section of the market. This was caused by the news that Crown Resorts employees were detained in China for illegally promoting gambling in the country.
SkyCity Entertainment Group is working to be able to present their players and clients with the best experience. With the planned expansion of their Adelaide casino resort, the casino operator will achieve just that. They are also planning strategic openings for their Darwin Casino project.
