Many industry experts, speculated that Wynn Resorts would consider changing the name of the Boston Harbour resort. The casino resort itself also mentioned that they are considering changing the name. It would be an attempt to remove the name Wynn, which is now tainted with a bad reputation of sexual assault in the workplace.
On Friday, Steve Maddox, Wynn Resorts CEO met with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) to talk about the name change.
Massachusetts Gaming Commission Discussion
In the enquiry, is where Maddox mentioned that they want to use the Encore name in the name similar to the second Las Vegas resort. As a result, it will go by the name of Encore Boston Harbour.
In support of his suggestion, Maddox said that even though the brand name of Wynn is strong, it now bears cultural sensitivity because of the allegations that the former CEO and chairman is facing. He also said that the casino resort has no business connections with Steve Wynn.
The MGC will decide on whether to agree with the name change this week. However, this is just a separate issue that MGC and Wynn Resorts are dealing with.
Ongoing Investigation into Wynn Resort Management
Currently, the MGC is investigating the management at the gaming operator company, to find out whether they knew about the Wynn’s allegations. The outcome of this investigation will determine whether the casino resort get to keep its gaming licence in Massachusetts.
MGM May Buy the Encore Boston Harbour
Should the Wynn Resort lose the license to operate in Massachusetts, MGM has shown interest in the Boston harbour resort. However, that has also raised eyebrows on whether MGM will be able to buy Encore Boston Harbour. That is because they are currently building a resort in Springfield. According to the law in Massachusetts, one gaming operator cannot have two licenses in the state.
