Free Pai Gow

Welcome to the best free pai gow poker guide. Pai Gow is one of two variations of pai gow. This version is played with a standard deck of playing cards (joker included) while the other variation uses Chinese dominoes.

In other regions, the game is called double-hand poker, which describes an important aspect of the game – the building of two hands, not one. The game is typically played between a group of 6 players plus a dealer. For more on how to play free pai gow poker, keep reading.

Free Pai Gow Poker Rules

Playing free pai gow poker doesn’t necessarily change the rules or gameplay. All that stays the same, the only difference is that instead of making a cash deposit to play for real money, you’ll skip this step and opt for the demo or free version instead. But, because you are playing for free, you forfeit the chance to win real money should you become lucky.

In this version of pai gow, you must build two hands out of the seven cards that will be dealt to you. The game doesn’t include a draw pile, which means the cards you have been initially dealt are the cards you have to play with. There is no option to discard when you are playing free pai gow poker.

Your first hand will consist of 5 cards while your second hand will consist of 2 cards. They are called the big and small hands respectfully. Your big hand must be of greater value than your small hand otherwise it won’t be valid. And, when you play, you must place your small hand before the big hand otherwise it will not be accepted by the house. Most importantly, both your hands must beat the dealers to win the game. If it happens that you only win one hand and the dealer wins the other, we call this a push or a tie which means nobody wins. If the dealer’s hands are better than yours then the house takes that round, and you lose.

How to Play Pai Gow for Free

Now, let’s get into the actual gameplay for free pai gow poker. As mentioned previously, not much is different. We simply skip the part where real money bets are made and play for free instead. Follow our step-by-step guide below.

  1. Before the dealer hands out the cards, all players are expected to place their bets. In this case, you will place your bet using free or “fake” credits. The betting denominations should display on the screen if you are playing online.
  2. Then, click the deal button to receive your 7 cards. The dealer will subsequently receive 7 cards of his own.
  3. When you have your cards, you must separate them into two hands using your skills and whatever knowledge you have in the game. Remember, your small hand should have 2 cards and your big hand should have 5 cards. At this stage, some casinos offer a house way option. To implement, you simply click on the applicable button to have your cards sorted by the software using house rules. But free pai gow poker games are great for practicing and brushing up on your skills. But, when you select the house way option, you’re technically not using any brain power which defeats the purpose.
  4. Next, all hands will be revealed and the player with the best two hands will win that round and will receive the equivalent payout. We’ve already mentioned what happens in case of a draw, or if the house wins.

Free pai gow poker uses a standard poker hand rankings chart which you can use to check the value of your big hand. For the small hand there are only two possible combinations – a pair or two high cards.
